I am a freelance director working in theatre, music theatre and opera. I’ve directed a variety of productions around the UK, from new plays to Shakespeare to devised work. My work is about finding fresh, clear and gripping ways to tell stories, aiming for clarity, precision, mischief and truth.
I’m based in London and Leeds, but work all over the place.
Alongside my own directing, I’ve worked extensively as an assistant director at companies including the Young Vic Theatre, English National Opera and Opera North.
Music is important in all my work, and I particularly enjoy collaborating with composers.
Current work
I’m currently assistant director on The St Matthew Passion for Vocal Futures [www.vocalfutures.org]. In the new year I shall be teaching on the musical theatre course at London College of Music (University of West London). [updated November 2011]
